The Kentucky Irish Music Academy is led by acclaimed and award-winning musicians and educators Justin Bridges and Jeremy Wade. Another common thread for the Corner House members was the Berklee College of Music; Bichan and Setiawan are graduates, Murray is currently enrolled, while Hawkins attended a summer session there and wound up staying in town. Members of the pageant included Carolan as a boy and as an adult, Bridget Cruise, Mrs MacDermottroe and her husband and some of the patrons for whom Carolan composed music. It was in the crowded yet genial confines of The Brighton House that Bichan, Setiawan, and Hawkins began to fashion the Corner House sound. This tune appears under the title ‘Rinnce is Ceól’ in Josephine Keegan’s 2004 tune collection A Drop in the Ocean. It almost sounds like a hop jig, this one, but once you get into the B-part it starts to sound a bit rushed. This is a fine concertina tune. A listening excursion through Corner House’s two recordings readily attests to its ability to convincingly mesh the different genres. In the fall of 2017, Corner House formally debuted at the FreshGrass Festival in western Massachusetts, then appeared at Berklee’s Red Room at Café 939. Now it’s back to tinkertoy swords. It used to be the standard tune used by The Belmont Sword Squad for longsword dances.
